Dr. Stephan Gauci

Stephan is a lawyer by profession admitted to the Maltese Bar in 2004.

In 2005, Stephan had set up his own legal practice and spent the first few years primarily as a litigator in the civil, commercial and criminal fields. Simultaneously, he developed an interest in the corporate, trusteeship and fiduciary sectors and later in his career made these fields the cornerstone of his professional endeavours. Stephan has been an Approved Person by the Malta Financial Services Authority since 2005 and has served as Director, Company Secretary, MLRO and Compliance Officer of different regulated entities that he has been involved in throughout the past 20 years.

Stephan is a member of the Chamber of Advocates, the Institute of Financial Services Practitioners, the Malta Maritime Law Association and the Malta Union of Teachers. Throughout the years Stephan has also been a member of the Malta Institute of Management, the Malta Association of Compliance Officers (subsequently merged into the Malta Association of Risk Management), the International Compliance Association as well as a fellow of the Malta Institute of Taxation.

Stephan has always sought to participate actively in the professional bodies he has been a member of and in the past has served on the PMLFT Sub-Committee of the Institute of Financial Services Practitioners as well as on the first Committee of the Malta Association of Compliance Officers. Currently Stephan serves on the Education Sub-Committee of the Institute of Financial Services Practitioners.On a pro-bono basis, Stephan has also served on the Board of Governors of foundations within the education sector.

Over the years, Stephan has been a contributor in a number of legal publications, both locally and overseas. Furthermore, Stephan has since 2014 been an assistant visiting lecturer and examiner at the University of Malta (Faculty of Laws).

Whilst Maltese and English are Stephan’s mother tongues, he is also very fluent in Italian and has a basic understanding of French and Spanish.

On the personal level, Stephan is married and has two children. In his spare time, Stephan enjoys travelling, the performing arts, philately, football memorabilia collection and football.
